Sensex closes at 52,975.80 and Nifty at 15,856.05

On the last day of the week, market closed with green sign of rise at the end of the day, Sensex closed near 53,000 mark while the Nifty finished above 15,850 level. BSE Sensex jumped 139 points, or 0.26 percent, to trade at 52,976. The NSE Nifty also surged 32 points, or 0.2 percent, to trade at 15,856.

Zomato Ltd closed nearly 65% above its offer price at 125.20 rupees, reflecting investor interest in internet-based consumer startups expected to thrive during the Covid-19 pandemic.

At the interbank forex market, the domestic currency witnessed heavy volatility. The local unit opened weak at 74.55 a dollar and touched a low of 74.58 in morning trade. The local unit recovered later and touched a high of 74.37 during the day. It finally closed at 74.40 against the American currency, registering a rise of 6 paise over its previous close. On Thursday, the rupee had settled at 74.46.
