Olympics 2021: Sajan Prakash fails to qualify for semis, Japan’s Ono wins gold medal in men’s -73 kg

Japan’s judoka Shohei Ono won the gold medal in the men’s 73 kg weight category at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics on Monday, beating Lasha Shavdatuashvili of Georgia in the final. Bronze medals went to Changrim An of South Korea and Tsogtbaatar Tsend-Ochir of Mongolia, both picking up their first Olympic medals.

India’s Sajan Prakash completed 24th overall in the 200m butterfly heats and failed to qualify for the semi-finals. Boxer Ashish Kumar crashed out after losing 0-5 against Erbieke Tuoheta of China in the middleweight Round of 32 bout. Manika Batra lost her women’s singles third round match 0-4 against Sofia Polcanova of Austria.

Indian Fencing made its Olympic debut today with Bhavani Devi, who went on to win her first match in the women’s Sabre event before exiting in the Round of 32. The men’s archery team also made it to the quarterfinals but lost to the Koreans.
