New Delhi
On a long pending demand of the state, Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured that he would look into the demand for separate IAS and IPS cadres for Meghalaya and Assam. Currently, both states have a common Cadre of All India Services (AIS).
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said, “I took up the matter (of separate IAS/IPS cadres) with Prime Minister Narendra Modi a number of times. He has assured (me, that he would) look into the matter.”
The Meghalaya government is likely to continue putting pressure on the Centre for a separate IAS and IPS cadres as it is in the larger and long-term interests of both Assam and Meghalaya.
