The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that Cyclonic Storm ‘Biparjoy’ will further intensify into a very severe cyclonic storm over east-central and adjoining southeast Arabian Sea during the next 12 hours.
“The very severe Cyclonic storm is currently about 860km west-southwest of Goa, 970 km southwest of Mumbai, 1050 km south-southwest of Porbandar and 1350 km south of Karachi,” it said.
Cyclone ‘Biparjoy’ is currently centered about 860km west-southwest of Goa and it will also impact Maharashtra and Karnataka. It is now a very severe cyclone which is expected to intensify further in the next 48 hours.
IMD DG Mritunjay Mahapatra said monsoon arrived in Kerala a few days late. Usually it arrives on June 1 every year.
